EL CALAFATE... Perito Moreno

This weekend I took a quick trip to El Calafate, Patagonia to see the glaciers and minitrek on Perito Moreno (the glacier). It was truly an incredible experience. The town of El Calafate is extremely small and very cute. I met some really nice people on the tour and I mostly hung out with a 55 year old woman from the south of France who was really sweet and between her broken Spanish & mine we managed to have some great conversations. The pictures are in no particular order because I'm too tired to make sense of them :). At the end of our minitrekking experience the guides surprised us with gin and alfajores (chocolate treats) which was pretty funny. Enjoy the images.

EL CALAFATE...

And i'm off to visit the glaciers! Pics coming soon.

El Calafate is a small town in Patagonia, Argentina. It is situated in the southern border of Lake Argentino, in the southwest part of the Santa Cruz Province, about 320 km Northwest from Río Gallegos. Its name comes from a little bush with yellow flowers very common in Patagonia, with dark blue berries: the calafate (Berberis buxifolia); the word comes from the word "calafate", which is Spanish for "caulk".
El Calafate is an important tourist destination as the hub to visit different parts of the Los Glaciares National Park, including the Perito Moreno Glacier (one of the most visited in the world) and the Cerro Chaltén and Cerro Torre.
